The only way I can see an urchin damaging your tank is if you had a heavy buildup of coraline that it was trying to munch off of the acrylic, it may scratch it that way. Just cruising around I don't see how it could do it unless it knocks rocks down.
I was guessing that it would be a way to scratch the tank, I never had a problem with my glass 100 gallon tank. I also never saw it eat any coraline from the glass either. All they did was crawl on it once in awhile.
I've got two different kinds. One has pink an dpurplr spines. the othes have orange spines. I've got them in both glass and acrylic tanks and haven't seen any damage to them. I do see them occasionaly on the glass/acrylic. They are great IMO for eating alage. I just need more of them in my 400 G tank.
