Anyone have experience with Glass Cages?

I'm seriously considering a 240 long from Glass Cages. I hear many stories about them. Does anyone from around here - Decatur have any experience?

I hear very little good about this company, and there customer service is one of the worst. I was considering them for my 180g project but after reading up on them I will go else where.

Yes, they have grown quite a bit since my purchase of a 240 gal cube. My experience was good everything was done to my specifications and all my questions were asked. However my tank did spring a tank ending leak. But I do foult myself for the leak. I think my wife and I were to aggressive with the razor blade when clenning the tank glass.

i gave them exact blueprints of my tank. they drilled the FRONT glass of the tank despite my blueprints asking for the SIDE to be drilled. i refused to accept the tank because it was thier error and asked for a new tank to be made. they told me "no, take this one or the order is cancelled." since i didn't want bulkheads on my viewing pane, i allowed THEM to cancel my order.

My best friend has a 240g from them. He designed it they built it, he's had it for a little over a year now and it's doing just fine. I also know several other people who have there tanks and had no issues with them. However I've read other threads where there were mixed issues. I don't have one myself, I do plan on getting a 180 from them in the far future(if the wife allows it). :)

$665 for a black duel overflow 180g wide. This is $100 - $150 less than any other LFS I called in the central IL area. Most were $800.

The price glass cages quoted me was $650 or $660 with shipping and I'd have to drive to St louis to pick it up.

It's all overpriced here. In Chicago, you can get AGA 180 for $500, and AGA 210 for $600, sometimes they're even less. AGA makes some nice tanks I think.

Oh I was wrong it's not a 210, it's a 240g that was $720. The extra 6 inches in height it gives a extra 60g.

It lamost seems worth a extra $50 for the extra water volume.

Also I need to find some prices on the 240 long. From the prices I was looking at online there isn't that big of a jump in price from 180g 72 inches to a 240g Long 96 inches. I don't know though 96 inches is almost stupid big.

Hmmm that's a good price, but I still don't know if it's worth the drive, probably $50 in gas for a truck + I don't have one.

8 ft is huge. That is what Jeff's tank is. Remeber one thing. The bigger it is, the more live stock you need to make it look nice. I would think a 6ft tank is PLENTY big. especially one that is 2+ ft deep.

Especially after you find out you've only got 90 inches
of entranceway.

:hmm6:

Yeah 96 inches is to long and then you have to find a space that big for it.

48x24x24 is a nice size but isn't a big enough upgrade, I want something longer so it will give me more options on fish I can keep like some of the big angles or multiple tangs and Anthias.
