6-figure really isn't that much in this hobby, i have about 10k in my 90g+ system and i don't make a whole lot over minimum wage and have only been in the hobby about 3 years.

I remember there was a thread on a outdoor reef tank some one had in Monterey. Im not sure how much the hobbyist spent, but its more than most. Maybe someone can dig that thread up.
