I have accumulated a few dead coral skeletons and trimmings over the years and wonder if I can't just clean them, break'em up and throw them in my Calcium reactor? Anyone else do this? and is there anything problematic with this?

Ive read about the guy who maintains/owns that giant 20,000 gallon reef tank in NY...i though he said he frags the acros and uses the frags in the CaRx.

Sorry...no names! Almost useless without them...

I have used them in the past and never had a problem. I did beach them before use and soaked them in RO for a few weeks.

thanks for the replies... I soaked the broken up pieces in bleach and water to remove all of the residual organic material. I plan on soaking in RO for a few days, changing it a couple times a day, then letting it dry completely. Then, in the reactor it goes.... I had a basketball sized birdnest that had the upper half die during a power outage and water level dropped. Hate to see that much coral just go to waste!!!

I've read that a lot of people do this. unfortunately I've never kept any dead corals to try this. I guess I'll have to start
