Anyone use/know anything about this T-5 Fixture??

From the website:

Specifications:
computer designed reflectors are made with highly polished alumium, has independent switches, UV transmitting protective cover, comes with (2) 36 watt Marine White and (2) 36 watt Marine Blue lamp

Looks nice, sounds nice...but is it nice??? I have never heard this unit mentioned as one of the good ones so I doubt it. It does say it has computer designed reflectors though. If that is true, and they are as good as other available reflectors it may be worth taking the gamble. I would definatly call and be sure that each bulb has its own relfector. That is by far the most important feature.

just called. she said each bulb has its own aluminum reflector. the reason it is so cheap is because they are going to stop selling them. she is unsure why they are not selling anymore....

Was it an older lady?

She told me she didn't know!!

Here is Hikari's phone number: 800-621-5619, haven't called yet.

i looked at the picture of the individual reflector and it doesnt have the "M" shape that icecap and tek seem to have. am i correct on that?

the link you posted seems to be the 36" Silver Luminarie/Reflect/4-36W Comp

this link is the 36" Silver Luminarie/Reflect/4-39W T-5 (Hikari)

http://www.thatpetplace.com/Products/KW/hikari/Class//T1/F38EX+0551+0153/EDP/42392/Itemdy00.aspx

its a little more expensive but i think the first link you posted is not t5....

$223.99 vs $189.99

Right, I have a tek system on my 75, but it appears that this may also have individual reflectors. I am actually going to be in that area next week. I may stop by that store and see if I can take a look at one of them.

ICECAP, TEK...those are the best as far T5s IMO...REFLECTORs are KEY to T5s other wise you might as well stick w/ PCs

you are forgetting the aqualux sold CDR's

they are as good as the icecap, and better than the tek, and less money than either.

if that unit has arcadia reflectors, then it should be good. arcadias are used in europe with good success.

I may stop by there tomorrow night. I am working in reading, pa right now and this place is about 45 minutes away in Allentown.

I will report what I find and post some pictures if I can.

wow, thanks ray, that'd be great.

I stopped by tonight. First thing I got to say is WOW!!! That store in gigantic, probably the size of a super walmart and about 50% fish stuff.

I saw the lights and they let me open the 2x24w t-5 light (2ft). The reflectors are 3 sided, the best description I could give is that they look like a the top 3 sides of a trapezoid ( /---\ 4th and long side would be the bottom). It does have indvidual reflectors, but they are nothing like the Tek units. Seemed to be a decent fixture, but I did not buy one.

ray,

did the unit look at all like you might be able to remove those reflectors and retrofit another reflector in there?

I only looked at the 2x24 watt fixture, there would definately be room. Not sure about the units with 4 bulbs. I think you can get a finnex for cheaper though and do the same thing.
