Hi,

I was wondering how well your aquaC ev skimmer is working. I don't get alot of junk in the collection cup, actually i get very little. Are there any modifications that will help. I've read the instructions and have the settings the way they stated. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

here's a pic of mine... which one do you have and what pump are you using?

What model and pump? I have an old EV-90 on a mag 5 ..it's only consistent when my sump water level is constant... when it fluctuates...so does the performance.

What model and pump?
The most valuable question you could ever ask!

I have a new EV180 and I'm using an Eheim 1262 with it. I wouldn't want any other skimmer. WHen I see other skimmers they just look cheap and flimsy. I love my Aqua C.

It produces a lot of skimmate. It's all wet like tea, no bubbles, but it pulls about 3/4 liter of brown tea out of my water every day.

I have to empty my waste collection container every other day. Greg helped me to get it running with the Eheim 1262, (which is almost too powerful for this skimmer).

it seems like i'm running the older model, ev200 with a quiet one 4000 which is rated at 1017 g/h. maybe it is just the older model, because it will not even skim a quarter of the cup in a week. i have it set up as an external skimmer, i will try to put it in the sump and change the pump back to the mag 7. i'm getting fed up with it.

I don't think the quiet one pump actually pushes what is states on the packaging... I've had two of those suckers - they are not that quiet and they don't seem to push what the rating says..even at zero head. Here's the link to the manual for the EV-200 , hope it helps.

quiet one 4000's are not pressure rated (they are purely flow pumps). A mag or better yet an eheim would work sooooooo much better!

I would go with the Eheim 1262, rather than the Mag 7. If you have to go with a mag, at least go with the 9.5 If you go with the mag 7, I gaurantee you will still not be happy with the performance. remember that mounting the skimmer externally, adds longer hose and that means more head pressure on the pump, further decreasing performance.

i'm going to put it back in the sump and run my mag 7 for now. it's just that the pump submersed heats up my water and the bubble issue. does it create alot of bubbles, if so what are you doing to decrease the amount. i have a 10 gallon sump with no baffles. thanks everyone for your help.

Greg's tank is no stranger to bubbles! =)

If it's external why not run a pressure pump like a mak4 or iwaki30?

Yeah Charles but my bubbles are not from the skimmer and they are also intentional.

Running a pressure pump would definitly be your solution if youo want to keep it external. If you get bubbles from the skimmer output you could try adding a filter sock to the skimmer's output.

now how would you tell if a pump is a pressure pump or not. i have an og external quiet one pump that was made by grundfos, it has a 3/4 input and output.

Hey Greg,

What type of pump would you recommend for an ev240? How much wattage do mag 18's run on an ev240?

Thanks! Charles

Check out that ehiem 1250 yinger has for sale-should help boost performance =)
1250 is too small for the EV180. If it has to be submersible, you will need the Eheim 1262 or the Mag9.5. You might be able to get away with the Eheim 1260 but I would not put my money on it. As for pressure pumps, they are all external (ex. Iwaki, Panworld, GRI) I would go with the Panworld.

Mag 18 will work great if you don't want to go external.

the eheim 1250 is only rated for 317 gph and the mag is 700. i'm not getting anywhere with the mag 7, so i'm going to upgrade. which would be better the eheim 1262 @ 900 gph or the mag 9.5 @ 950 gph?
