Aptasia? After forever!?

so. I just upgraded my light twice for my first nano. First, I started off with a 50/50 coralife bulb and stood it next to the window. It was doing great, lots of light. Blah blah, had no problems.

Got a biocube 14 and a crappy clip on LED with 5 3 watt leds. did ALRIGHT.. nothing amazing, but i dont think it was great.

Third upgrade, Par38 bulb. everyone is loving it. The spread is crap, but corals are opening up fast and wide like they are in the sun again.

However, after about a week of having the bulb, I was looking in the tank and I noticed something in the back. . . .Tentacles. This isn't no japanese pornos either. This was Aptasia! I was sure of it. Its the ugly redish brown. I saw a million of them in a low class biocube at a "Lfs".. and I read a million articles on them.

QUESTION IS: The live rock I got was only about 7 lbs between 3 rocks. Months.. MONTHS ago. Back in november, I think. The rest of it was bleached rock turned live.

Can aptasia really hide that long in the rocks? Also, heard a method to kill them is to burn them.. Can I really take a lighter to them?

there is that aphasia X crap but you have to make sure you really inject them.

What I did was heat some metal and burn the crap out of them. only thing is that when they're out of the tank its HARD to find them

I just got rid of my crappy biotank stand.. Particle wood P.O.S..Got it on a fancy 900 dollar sink base thing. ( got it for 100 bucks. )

I was playing with it when I pulled it out of the water. I let it stay only cause I had nothing that would scrape it off in the corner. But, I know where it is and I am getting a couple peppermint shrimp tomorrow. I like them anyways.

There are different types of aiptasia. I had a single one in my biocube for almost 2 years and never spread. Go figure. I would try and rid it just to be safe. I believe they flourish in high nutrient environments.

Have you put any frags recently in the tank. I put one frag in my tank and it had a tiny aipstasia in a month they were spreading like crazy took me a month to rid them

Truthfully, I did get frags recently. it was at the swap. But.. It was in my other tank, they never touched this tank..

That is why I find it so strange. It has been hiding for months and now all of a sudden Its out and about. I have moved the rocks around a lot, so I should have noticed it before. I mean, I am not crazy for spending countless hours staring at the tank(s).

Lol, same happened with me in my nano. I felt in knew every square inch of rock. It was 6 months before I noticed the little bugger.
