Aptasia?

I noticed one of these last night, but was unable to see it today with the lights on, not even a trace, tonight, shortly after the lights went off i saw it again, and two more... I'm afraid it may be aptasia, but would like a second opinion - sorry for the poor pictures, but as I said, they dissapear during the day entirely...

Yeah, that is Aiptasia. I have quite a few in my tank as well. That's why I'm hoping I get the 2nd half of the package soon and put that peppermint shrimp to work. :)

if the peppermint hrimp are suposed to take care of it i'll give them some time to do their thing. thanks.

there are several anemones that are related to apt. that are not as bad ... if you see them taking over then go for it.

but I had one that grew very large and never multiplied... but when it got big started to really worry that It might start stinging fish ....

Oh btw: a clump of what I thought was apt. when I first saw it has grown into some very nice "dead mans finger" gorgonians..

I will have to get my stuff together an post a photo.
when I got the rock they where tiny buds - now they are almost to the top of my 55 gallon tank!

they are curly cue's not aiptasia! they are fine. i have one from a year ago, its grown but not spread. aiptasia are not from the atlantic.

I read something about the curley-cues, but figured someone might be able to identify them as one or the other for sure - In any case, i prefer a "hands-off" approach to things, so i'll let them be and see what happens.

thanks for the input everyone.

So far I've noticed that 4 have turned into 8 but I'm not 100% sure if that's because they are spreading or just now getting to the point where they want to come out.

I'm going to wait and see what the peppermint shrimp does to them before I decide to take any further action.

I have had these curly-cue anenome's in my tank for YEARS, at first I paniced and thought they were the dreaded Axxxxxx anemomes I killed a few and felt bad, then I let them grow and they have grown in numbers very conservatively.

DON'T PANIC.

Well crap... Looks like it is time to break out the kalk and a syringe and kill it off then if the shrimp are not going to do their part.

That doesn't look like the typical curly cue to me....it looks like the bad stuff. The curly cues are more brownish and are thicker. That looks transparent and very thin. I'd try to remove it if I were you.

I've watched these change color from translucent to brown, seriously. When they are small, they are thin like this. I've watched them grow.

Still everyone must do what they think is right.
