The bottom pic looks as if it's dieing off in that spot, however it will proliferate on that power head as this algae loves high flow/light. Also x2 on removing the caulerpa:)

I Had this problem after months of tring to resolve it. I ended up scrabbing the Rock with a scrub brush and a bucket of salt water. it was very sad. I am sure there's over ways to solving this problem

I have heard rumor that urchins are the only thing that will eat this stuff. I am not certain that is true. Definitely get the caulerpa off of the rocks. If you want it in your display, grow it in a basket away from the live rocks. The little runners it sends out can embed deeply and removal will be a nightmare.

The pump needs some love. Take it out of the tank and soak it in some vinegar and scrub it down!

Not that you don't know it already but you have a nutrient problem. Start pulling it out and turf will go away. Macro algea will only pull out so much. Need a good skimmer and a order from Bulk Reef supply.

Yeah the Diadema will pick the rock clean but cannot get all the nooks and crannies leaving it to grow back...plus it will take an army of them. Also this algae can grow in low nutrient environments.

And a order from bulk reef supply? What am I to order?

-----------------

I keep pulling the macro out but it pops up other places.. I feed it to the choco stars.

Will vinegar the powerheads how much vinegar to I mix with how much water?

I'm hoping I don't have to nuke my rocks that doesn't sound like fun to me

why are you so against sumps? have you tried using a turkey baster to blow the cyno off and a fish net to catch the cyno?. also hows your water movement? as far as your other problem you might need to use a scrub brush and scrub the rock. how long has this been going on? whats your water test results?

this is a different issue from the cyno...
red turf algae is what we are talking about.

and I have heard to many stories about sumps with overflows and lifters failing, and flooding homes.

If your smart about it. A sump is almost guaranteed not to flood, unless the sump itself cracks.
For your nutrient problem a sump will really help you out. You will have room for a bigger skimmer, a fuge for macro algae, PO4 & Carbon reactors, never mind more water volume.
You don't need a sump. I ran a 100gal mixed reef for about 3 years that was sumpless, and was a nice looking tank. However, let me tell you from experience. Now that I have a sump on my 120 mix reef.. Things are a lot easier..

If you set your water levels right you can have a perfectly safe system. I have a 125g with a 30g sump using 2 dual 1" u-tube overflows (yes 4 u-tubes/drains) + a 10g frag tank and a second 10g remote tank all plumbed into this setup and when the power is off the sump handles all the water that drains into it. The tank itself will hold all the water that the return section can put in it also in the case of the overflows failing while the power is on. It is all about the levels. Those that end up with floods due to a blockage in the drain, u-tube loosing syphon, or the return pump stopping while still draining did not set their systems up correctly. This also applies to drilled setups in the same manner.

I can't fit a very big sump under my tank. I have tried to fit a 20L and a 20T under and it can't fit through the wholes, I can't imagine a 10g for a sump being very useful

how are your magnesium levels ? are you dosing Mag at all ?

I had a combination of red cyano and turf algae going when I re-established my tank this Summer and it was a mess. Foxface wasnt eating it, CUC wasnt cleaning it, and picking it off was a fruitless task as there was always fuzz levt behind. Phospahate sponge was being used too.

I got my new wavemaking gear and a gallon of Mag supp. in the same shipment and started both around the same time. Little more than a week after that, and the tank cleared up after being ugly for a couple of months .

At that time I just changed over to a redsea wavemaster pro and 2 K. Evo-1400 pheads. So not crazy flow really (what I had before was much less than that though)

Just a thought, Im not sure what cleared mine up exactly but it was one of those two things (or combo).....

PS dittos on getting the caulerpa out of your DT. C. racemosa caused me to have to nuke my whole system and start over from scratch. Get it out while you can.

Pulled the caulerpa well what I could get.
Mag was 9 something last test I have never needed to dose.

I have been told to I have to nuke my take to get rid of the turf algae, yet I have also been told it will go away...
I most likely will nuke the tank but I really really don't want to
