I tried using aquamend to stick my corals onto my live rock and it doesn't work at all! I know I have to work it around a bit and use alot but does anyone know any other way I can stick my corals to my live rock? If so please let me know. Also I have a 2 mushrooms that just wont stick to anything if anyone has any tricks let me know. Thanks.

Otherwise:

The epoxy-like stuff works, but mainly for wedging things into holes. It's not so good for just 'bonding'. I always glue corals onto frag plugs or small live rock chunks using the gel super glue. Once it 'bases out' ( attaches itself fully to the plug ), then I jam it into a crevice using a piece of the epoxy stick to hold it.

Softies, ricordeas & mushrooms dont glue down too well, they have to attach themselves.

You could try a rubber band (not too tight). Sew a line through the mushrooms body. If you can get the corals out and dry them and the rock off a bit, superglue works well. You can try a little bowl of rock rubble. Put the mushroom in there and put some netting material over the top. In a few weeks, the mushroom will attach to something (hopefully the rubble and not the bowl). Lots of options.

I use aquamend and it works great for me. After you work in with your fingers till it is white let it set for 5-10 minutes. It takes 20 minutes to cure up. (Of course this only works for hard corals).

I put mine on frag plugs and let is set there, then attach the coral frag or coral to the plug or a rock.

Nick,

Try using epoxy AND super glue. Take a blob of epoxy, apply a good sized drop of super glue to the epoxy. Push your frag into the super glue, imbedding it into the epoxy. Now apply some super glue to the underside of the epoxy and stick the whole thing onto the live rock you want your frag to be. Hold it there for about 20 seconds and it's stuck pretty good.

There was an old thread about this technique here on RC awhile back. It works great.

FYI: use super glue gel, not liquid.

I like to put mushrooms in a shallow cup on top of live rock rubble in a low flow area for a couple of days. Once the 'shroom attaches to the rubble, you can glue or epoxy it where you want it.

GL,

Mushrooms I let try to attach themselves. Most softies I sew on and only use glue if necessary. Sometimes I use both. Sometimes I only glue. It really depends on the type of frag. Mushrooms like anemones like to find a place for themselves it seems. Lots of times with mushrooms I'll place them in a small hole or crevice in a piece of LR, they will usually take hold there. I think the idea of using netting to hold them down if you want them in a certain spot is a good idea. For LPS I think Tagareef has an excellent idea with "Take a blob of epoxy, apply a good sized drop of super glue to the epoxy..." Good luck!

For shrooms and other softies I use wooden toothpicks. Just spear the coral and stick the toothpick into a hole in your liverock. Leave it for about 2 weeks before pulling it out.

the epoxy sticks work really well you just have to practice with it! and again the epoxy really only works well on hard corals...if you have softies you might have to try something else. With mushrooms we try to loosely zip ty them to a rock and it works really well!
good luck

Thanks for all the help. If anyone has any more ideas... let me know. Oh and this is a stupid question but do you take the live rock out of the water and dry it off to stick the coral on with super glue or do it under water? dry would make sense... but just checking.

Thanks,
Nick

I use the plastic netting like some veggies come in at the store either with a rubber band for smaller rocks/plugs or a bit of super glue to attach it here and there on a larger rock to hold softies down until they affix themselves.
