AquaMend underwater epoxy

Hey guys! After seeing that epoxy is like $20 bucks at the LFS; a friend told me I could get the same stuff for way less at Home Depot. I picked up some "AquaMend". I was told that I can use this underwater in my tank; but am worried about it being "reef safe" so to speak. It does not say that its non-toxic; and the Home Depot employee said that there is no such thing as non toxic epoxy. Any expierience on this?? I have corals acclimating now that will need to be mounted.

TIA!

Donna

If it is non-toxic and is designed for underwater use it should work. Try using a small mixed amount of it and if your fish look irritated or coral close up take it out and add some carbon. I doubt you will have to do this.

I don't think anyone was offended by your lack of search. It's almost always down.

I just had nothing better to do at 2am, and wanted you to be assured it was safe. :)

Mr. Lloyd,

Looked over the Apoxy Sculpt. Interesting.

Have you only used small quantities for frag attachments? Have you used any large quantities in the same tank, like for binding rocks together?

Thanks.

I use Apoxy Sculpt in taxidermy and have for 15 years.I normally get it in 4 pound kits for $23.They sell it in 5 gallon buckets if you need to something big.In my 300g tank ,I have used at one time ,something just a bit smaller than a baseball. It comes in 12 colors.I have attached a number of small rocks to the rear wall of my tank and later added frags onto the rock.I do not question the quality of other epoxy but from what I have seem Apoxie Sculpt prices are much better. How about 20 pounds of the cream color for $100 and the colored $120.

I'm jazzed, Lloyd.

I've checked them out. Price is right; choices are super. I was only concerned about putting an entire reef together with it, like using 20 pounds of it in a 300g.

It sounds like from what you wrote that you would go ahead and use it lavishly, and that you haven't had any negative reaction to it.

Just being sure before I buy it, because I will buy it!

I'm trying to imagine how the 5-gal bucket works. Is both components in the one bucket? Can you just pick out clumps of both to mix or do you have to mix the whole volume at one time?

Thanks for your patience and understanding.:D

The 5 gallon thing is 5g of part A and 5 of part B.I would suggest you try the 4 pound kit to see how you like it.The pink matches coraline algae pretty well.I do not use it to put my major rock work together but you could do it.I try to aquascape to where everything is really steady and with some of the rocks going 20-40 pounds each, nothing in my tank is going to move them.I have my overflow returns coming back into the tank through 3 port in the tank bottom.Bulkhead>PVC pipe>45 elbow. The elbows were covered with Apoxie Sculpt, embedded with little rocks and textured with other rock.I did this out of the tank. The holes all face the rear wall so the ports just look like rocks.I have one with acropora on it right in mid tank in the open.Neat camouflage.

You guys are trying to confuse me with more facts! :crazy1:

Thorite info doesn't say anything about toxicity. Probably better if I stick with the Apoxy Sculpt.

Thanks.
:D
