Aquapod question

I was about to buy a JBJ Nano Cube and then I went into my LFS and saw he had an Aquapod set up. I asked him what the price is for an Aquapod and he told me these systems need to be "tweeked" to work well. He told me it was $195.00 tweaked.
I asked him what he does to it and he said something like he notches out something in the back, changing the pump so the flow moves 600 gallons and setting it up to use Phasoban (sp?) No changes to the lighting.
After reading on this forum how people are happy with the stock items is this worth the xtra money? I have no idea being a beginner and wanted to get other opinions.

I dont have one but it sounds like he is just modifing the tank for more flow. Have you tried doing a search of the "vendor" and "DIY" forums? I'm sure if the tank needed modifing someone on the "DIY" forum would have done it and posted about it.

I love my Aquapod 12G but it should be around less than $150 hopefully your price was for a 24G. The AP work great right out of the box for your basic needs and if you want later you can easily mod the thing. It is very user friendly. Also if you get a 12G make sure it has a serial number on it. IF not it is one of the recalled AP and don't buy it. The AP 24G are not affected by the recall. ~Matt

We picked up our Aquapod 12 gal for 129.99 ;)

You can change the pump yourself very simple to do. We changed it out for a maxi-jet 900 from the stock pump.

You can also add a http://www.petsolutions.com/Flo+Rotating+Water+Deflector-I-41400047-I-C-1042-C-.aspx to help with flow and agitation.

Or make it a dual outlet setup using modular fittings and pipe.

Some people notch out the back compartment making one larger compartment for ease of fitting the fission nano skimmer. I tried using the skimmer before adding to the tank. Was not satisfied with it.

I cut my foam block. Removed an inch off of it for better surface skimming!.. I run carbon, chemi-pure and phosban in the rear chambers.

I have LR to add with filtering with lots of macro algae and corline-pinks, purple's and red's. Been cycled 2 months and now has stock in it. All reading are Zero and very happy with it.

Is it as simple as taking one pump out and putting the other one in, or do I have to do more?

I have a 12g, it was only $129, i run only carbon in chamber 1, live rock rubble in the next 2 and have added the maxijet 900 as well. I run a hydor flo on the output just to make better flow. Everything i have is happy and growing well. Aside from ditching the filter medias they give you aquapods work great right out of the box.

Just spoke to my LFS and he said he is putting an auto pump called an ultralight on all his 12 gallon aquapods that he sells. It moves 5x the amount of water than the stock pump. I tried doing a search on ultralight and nothing comes up. has anyone heard of this pump?
