I've been looking for a Mantis locally to put in my 6 gallon cube (12" x 12" x 10"; 1/4" glass). N. wennerae is my first choice, but so far all I've found is a Harlequin Mantis. I know these get too big for a 6 gallon tank, but I figure it might be worth getting if it is small. I'd build a larger tank for it right away (18" x 18" x 15").
I've looked over this forum thoroughly and can't find any info about how thick acrylic tanks need to be to withstand the punch of a large Peacock/Harlequin Mantis. Does anyone know?
Since acrylic costs a fortune, what thickness of glass would be suitable instead?
Also, I get the impression that Mantis shrimp generally break through the bottom pane of glass in their tanks. Is this true?
Any info would be great.
