Aragalive Works!

Wanted to put in a good word for aragalive, that stuff really works. I started a 90 gallon and I put in some mostly cured rock and within 3 days it had cycled a large ammonia spike then nitrite spike then nittrates seemed to settle to a lower level. So I thought no way that could have cycled that fast. So I dropped in a fish much to my surprise all a very small spike of each cleared overnight and I tested my luck and added two more fish same thing only a really small spike. Then due to a malfunction of a heater in one of my smaller tanks I was forced (temps dipped into the low 70 range) to transfer all my corals from that tank into the 90 alot faster than I wanted to so after floating about 10 bags and them acclimating them I put them in I am happy to say that so far everything seems happy, some are adjusting to the new halides. I am not one to advertise but I did want to pass that along. Also will be posting some pics of the live rock that I promised in a few minutes as well.

I am glad that the product worked out for you.

I am just curious. Can you tell if the quick cycling was mostly due to Aragalive or the "mostly" cured live rocks?

About 4 years ago, I set up my 15 gallon tank with a bag of Aragalive and a small live rock (a good size for the nano tank) plus a few tiny base rocks and it still took 3-1/2 weeks to cycle the tank.

Could be the rock but I dont think so. But I guess I couldnt rule that out. The rock cycled in a rubbermaid tub for a week but still had high levels of ammonia in the rubber maid container and when placed in the tank with the aragalive it rapidly cycled it. Also the tank quickly adjusted to the load changes when I had to add the fish and coral.

The bag of Aragalive I used might have been sitting around in an LFS's a bit too long, then.

I used a bag of aragalive along with some regular marine sand when I started my 75. The tank cycled in exactly two weeks. From what I've read (from Fenner, Shimek, etc.) I take it that aragalive does contain some beneficial bacteria, but none of the micro fauna that you really want for a thriving "live" sand bed -- that usually comes on the LR and migrates to the sand bed. So, IMO, it could be of some benefit, but may not be a panacea.

Maybe I was lucky ;-) and again maybe I had cured the rock more than I had thought. I used only agralive though and used 4 bags

That could have been the difference, plus my rock was not cured.
