I saw these on Atlantis Aquarium's site and everything I have ever gotten there has looked just like the photos, but can these be for real? I have heard of blue blastos before but these are unbelievably blue. anyone who has seen some like these before feel free to help reassure me.

I thought actinic too (I'm learning to look for that!), but the sand is white, and there's something orange in the back ground that doesn't look like it's being hit by actinics. Wouldn't the sand be kind of blue too if it was under actinics? Is that where the color correction would come in? I'm still learning how to figure out if color has been manipulated in photos or not!
Hope you get some better answers than mine!

Yep, most of their stuff is under 20k. You can always call and ask, Joleen is very friendly and helpful. It looks like a nice blasto regardless!

it looks like a heavy actinic pic that has been color corrected. just my opinion.

do you have a hatred for nice looking corals? it seems as if all your post are negative towards another reefer, specially when it involves a picture of coral that you do not have or have seen. and how do you know that the pictures was color corrected or under HEAVY actinic? maybe it was just under SLIGHT actinic. plus, isn't everyones tank under actinic?
by the way, that is a very nice piece and they are a respectable shop to purchase from.

i don't know if i was negative. i just said what i saw. what makes me think this is the rock at the edge of the left side (the enchinata coral) is the exact same blue. now i have seen purple coraline and even pink...orange...lighter shades of purple and so on but not blue coraline.

i would have to agree it is very very nice and i would be proud to own it.

hey tomenugen... JUS keep REEFIN .lol

If interested, the blue blastos are $50 per polyp. I believe they
have a few polyps remaining. Dennis

hey mummra, why are you causing so much trouble? did't you get kick out of another reef community (Zoos R US) for accusing other member of stuff like what you are doing here in RC. if you don't have anything nice to say, keep your hands in your pocket.

well, I disagree to some extent, I DID ask for opinions because it is totally possible that the pics on their site are not totally normal due to lighting etc. I just wanted to see if anyone else had seen any like this.

To accuse of photo manipulation in an open forum is in poor taste. Even if those making such statements have personally seen the coral in question and it looked different to their eyes than the picture does, a simple "I have seen that coral in person and it was not as blue" would be more appropriate and should be enough for anyone to make an informed decision on (to buy or not).

It was already mentioned that they do keep their livestock under 20k lighting. There are other factors that could lead to a photo with a blue tint in addition to that. To flat out say the photo is doctored is wrong and IMO everyone should be given the benefit of the doubt whether they're an LFS or just some guy/gal selling corals.

Now we have people (in other states even) posting their best guess of what this coral might look like. In this case it casts a bad light on Atlantis - who does stock some of the nicest coral around, are a reputable shop to deal with, and who openly support many local reef clubs. I think they deserve a little more credit, and at least the benefit of the doubt.

I usually don't get mixed up in drama like this but I've noticed several posts like this lately and it bothers me, especially when it has to do with one of the better LFS in my area.

i still don't think i was negative. to take a pic under heavy blue light and then color correct it is not a shady practice imo it is just attempting to show what it looks like under blue spectrum light with out the whole pic being blue. live rock is always the hardest to get right under color correction (trust me i know i use color correction all the time). i still think it's a pretty sweet blasto.

color correction

color correction

these are two pics taken seconds apart. they were taken under VHO actinics and a 250w 20k MH.

the first pics is an untouched raw pic.

this is with a color correction through manual white balance.

this last pic was cropped and taken through PS just to brighten it up. PS is not evil in itself and to use it right just makes a good pic look even better.

now the second &third pic is what it looks like to my eye and i believe this is what was done to the blasto pic. i don't think it's a negative thing at all just an attempt to show what it looks like under those light conditions to the naked eye. i don't know about anybody else but my statements do not reflect what i have said in other posts as i do not in any way think any picture doctoring (at least in a negative way) has gone on here and i say again they are very sweet and yes i have seen that morph before but not near as big.

All of you people need to relax a little. Someone posted wanting an opinion of color in a picture. Other folks gave their opinion and you start bashing them. That is what forums are for to give opinions. I like the blastos in the picture but after buying from several online vendors you come to realize that nothing that you put in your tank will look exactly like the picture. Lighting water chemistry etc are never the same.
