okay so to raise alk, i'm going to add in some baking soda.

i read on one of the links provided to me previously, saying baking soda (6 grams) raises for 50 gallons 1 me/q. and i'm at around 1.3ish and i have to get up to 4.

now my question is...

can i just use Arm N Hammer baking soda? or is that not "pure" and will damage stuff in my tank?

Here's a link to a calculator to figure out how much to add (Calculator), but don't add everything at once. If you can, split it up between two or three doses so your parameters don't change real fast. Then test between doses to see how it affects your tank. You may need more/less of what your adding and it's easier to make adjustments before everything is added.

Arm N Hammer baking soda is fine, you can even bake it and turn it into washing soda if you wish.

going from 1.3 to 4meq in 2 or 3 doses is going to be bad news...Imagine the pH swing thats going to happen when you add each dose. i would mix it up with some RODI and drip it over time...like weeks. youll have to monitor the pH and the alk levels consistantly.
make the increase happen slowly or your tank inhabitants arent going to like it.
