ATO has rubber inner tube smell

Hello.

I use one of those 5 gal Walmart water cooler jugs as my ATO reservoir and noticed a "fishy" or bike inner tube smell :facepalm: coming from it. I add kalk to my top-off and was wondering if that may be breaking down the plastic jug. I would think it would smell like Mrs. Wages pickling lime instead of fish. Has anyone used one of these jugs as an ATO reservoir and had issues?

What other options are there for ATO reservoirs? I was thinking of buying a little 5 gallon fish tank. I just need something with a small foot print.

I doubt there's a problem. You could clean it with some vinegar if you're worried. The lime likely will make the plastic brittle over time, but the water cooler might last a fair amount of time.
