Automatic spill power cuttoff??

Hi all. I am looking for a device that, when it detects a spill:

1) Sounds an alarm

2) Turns power to an outlet off.

I2R makes this gizmo that will cutoff power if a spill is detected:

http://www.i-2-r.com/water_flow_mon...onepage/sp1.htm

But, It costs about $500.00 (it is aimed at the scientific market)

Does anyone know if a 'hobbyst' (cheaper) version is available. Just the alarm is not good enough, as I want the power cut if a spill is detected (no-one is home- etc)

Thanks.

why dont you just use the "screamer" ( a water detector for pretty cheap) and a GFCI?
i couldnt use the link cant see whats on it. sounds like a good idea but sounds pricey Goodluck

I'm curious too. I would like one for the event of something clogging the overflow, durso, etc. and the sump pump proceeding to empty it's contents to the overflowing display.

Does the screamer trip a GFCI?

You could use a float switch in your sump. If the water level drops below a certain point you could have it turn off your return pump. That would at least stop the flow to the tank and prevent a bigger spill.

Is that what you did after the two snail episodes? :) I like that idea. How often would you recommend replacing them?

Or alternatively you could purchase an ACIII and the water sensor. Very easy to program it to shut off one or more outlets, and it can e-mail you the alarm status.

Plus it will control all the things attached to your tank for you as well.
