Baby clam to adult

About a year and half ago I purchased my first baby max id say it was about an inch and a half at most, to about 3 inches. Since then I picked up several more, they are more risky, require more care...but hey I love watching small things grow up lol

mia, u can do it. u need to feed live phyto every other day and give that little bugger a lot of tlc. good luck and keep us posted

I have grown a teardrop from 1.5 inches to its current size of about 6 inches. Fed phyto occasionally (2-3x per week) and good water quality/lighting.

John,

How long did it take for it to go from 1.5 to 6?

Also, what are your inputs (phyto, type of lights, etc)

My Squammy was just lacking to be a full inch when I got it. Five years later it is pushing the 8-9" range

If I had been more experienced with its requirements the first year or so of being in the hobby, I am sure that the growth would have been even more!

This is great news guys! I am going to get some phyto in the next 2 days, I get my new baby on Thursday morning :) I have had experience with clams close to 2", just nothing smaller so I was a little nervous to say the least.

Leviathan: did you feed your baby squamosa? What lighting did you have it under (and how far from the light)?

I bought a crocea that was under an inch. Small daily feedings of liveDT's were the key.

It's actually pretty hardy, living through a tank crash that killed most corals and all of the fish! I've had it under 250W DE's its whole life.

It's grown pretty quickly. In a little over a year it's doubled in size.

IMO it had its best color while I was using phytofeast, but due to "issues" with it going bad I'm back to liveDTs which have a far better shelf life.

Hi Luvtolean,

We have just introduced a new formula of Phyto-Feast that tolerates the warmer temperatures that are typically found in home refrigerators. The old formula worked great if you kept refrigerator below 36 F, but the product did go bad pretty quickly above that. If you ordered it directly from us please contact me and I'll replace it for you. If you got it from a store I'll work something out so you can get a free replacement from them.

Wow, thanks for the reply, and update on your product, I hadn't realized you were a sponsor. As I said, I think you have a great product there. No need to replace anything, but thanks for the offer.

My first, and only, bottle was thrown away by the janitorial staff (my tank used to be at work) before I got through it. It was great, fresh stuff...and unbelievably "dense" compared to liveDTs.

I went to a couple of stores to replace it (like Aquatic Gallery), and both had phytofeast that the stores intended to ship back. Apparently the problem comes from the fridge being opened and closed a lot in these stores. (having actually used thermocouples to chart the delta in temps from opening the fridges in labs here at work I store electronics materialls in, I understand the problem fully)

Good luck with your products!

Yep, that's been a big problem. At many stores the employees put their sodas and drinking water in the same refrigerator as product so the temperature swings are pretty wild. Aquatic Gallery now has the new formula in stock as of last Sunday.
