I would do what you planned on doing after fragging them - let them heal in a calm place in the tank and just wait and see. They can make a comeback even if you don't get that cut just right.
cheers chrisstie, Ive got it in calm flow, reasonable light and dosed some iodine. two chances I suppose, the mother colony still has a mouth so that should be fine I hope!
hey kevo it will be alrigght.. ive done it.. it just takes the piece with out a mouth a lil longer to heal, thats all..if your lucky youll get 2 mouths on it like i did..
If you have some spare rock rubble you can sometimes build a little wall to shield things from flow if you need them to be in a calmer area. Hope this helps!
You can't just glue it to a new rock you have to let it attach itself to the rock using one of many, many methods. My personal favorite is to use netting (I use bridal veil) and a rubber band to gently hold it against the rock until it attaches.
The pieces you cut off will likely survive and will probably grow a mouth in 2 - 3 weeks, maybe less. I have yet to lose a green Ric florida in all my botched fragging attempts (I've had 3 or 4 of those now lol)
Not tight at all. You're just using the rubber band to loosely hold the bridal veil over the Ric.
Here's a pic of what I mean. The bridal veil is twisted in the back with the rubber band holding the twist together. If you have a long flat rock you can just wrap a rubberband around the rock overtop of the bridal veil. I'm sure there are many different ways to do it, but those are the two I use the most.
Give it a couple weeks. It should attach as long as you don't have it in a spot where it is unhappy (too much flow for example). If you missed the mouth you might have missed the foot as well, which means it may need to grow a foot to attach with.
