Bay area Looking for Ciliata

Hi Everybody!
I am in the process of looking for a ciliata for my new tank. If anybody happens to see one of these in a store somewhere it would make me extremely happy. I have only seen 1 in the bay are and that was a long time ago. So if you happen to come across one let me know.
Thanks,
Dane

Hey Dane,

I'll let Eddie know that you want a ciliata. I've seen 2 of them go through the store so maybe he can get another one. He's starting to sell them on www.tpaquarium.com so check back there often to see if they get in. There are 3 for sale right now, but all smashers, no ciliata...

Good luck on the search!

Thanks! I was going to talk to eddy about them last time I was in, but he wasn't there. How hard do you think it will be for him to find one? How much should it cost?
Thanks,
Dane

Not sure Dane. I'll try and find out for you ASAP and post back on here. The mantis shrimps usually sell pretty well there and Eddie tries to get them in pretty often or have some stock, but like I said, I've only seen ciliatas there twice! I'll keep you updated...

No worries...

Talked with Eddie tonight. He said he'll try to get one in ASAP. Price will be $35 for just about any size he can get, I figure most of them will be in the 1-2" range. Getting them is the hard part, getting them at a particular size is REALLY hard. ;)

Thanks! but y so much more for this one? You other ones are listed around $25. It it just because it is hard to get? Also if you refer to my last post concerning an ID you will find the middle mantis on the site is a G. chiragra. HTH. Thanks Again!

I thought the other ones were listed at $29 on his site, unless he put them on sale. Thanks for the ID, I'll let him know so he can change it. Hmm, I'm pretty sure he pays more for a ciliata than a regular smasher. I know for sure they are way harder to collect than your common smasher, or a peacock that comes out regularly. Search back through here and there was a post about the reasons they are harder to collect... and something along the lines of "to catch 1 ciliata I could have caught 6 peacocks in the same time."

Some divers know there's a market for these things and charge more compared to other mantis shrimps and it just gets more expensive down the line...

ok. I just didn't know if they were just super rare. or something. Thanks again for talking to eddy about it.
Thanks,
Dane
