Beckett skimmers

Are the beckett skimmers that much better than the ventury and/or the recirculating skimmers?

what are the differences and why most BB aquarist use them?
please educate me:confused:

I just upgraded to a MR-2R from www. myreefcreations .com and let me tell you it is many times better than the 200 dollar (Agressor 150...) venturi skimmer I had before.

I notice you are running a 20 gallon tank though... In that case I think a Beckett skimmer with the large pump requirements might be overkill.

Just my thoughts.

Thanks Brandon.
You are right, the Beckett would be overkill on my current tank but I really hope to upgrade hopefully this summer/christmas and I wanted to start investigating on the correct equipment.

From my research there are a million opinions and two million theories.... Ha you will soon find out.

My advice would be look at the skimmer based on where you live... I came to the conclusion that becketts were probably a little better than neddlewheels, but require more expensive pumps and alot more power.......

So if you live where power is cheap look at becketts, MRC etc..

If power and excess heat from big pumps is an issue for you then look at skimmers like euroreef, etc.

I spent months trying to figure out what skimmer to to with.

Good luck and hope maybe that helps. Somewhere on here there was a great thread by Anthony Calfo in the All Things Salty forums, but I cant seem to find it now.
