Before I obtain a clam...

Okay I get mixed answers on this issue. I got a 5 gal tank run on 23 watts of PC. Filtration is primarily the rock and sand. I've asked several places and some say a clam would do fine. Some said it can't be done and that they need MH. If I were to get one it would be in the middle or towards the top to receive mos intensity. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanx!

I think you would be able to keep certain low light Tridacnids, however most of those will quickly outgrow your 5g tank. Personally I would advise waiting until you upgrade to a larger tank. Chances are you'll be upgrading lighting as well, which will open up your choices as far as clams go.

IMO

I would consider 5 G tanks as a very temporary holding tank for a clam- no longer than 1 or 2 days at the worst case. The light definately would be an issue unless you kept it by the window in direct sunlight.

Anything can be done but at what cost? That is the real question here....
