Best lighting for coloration- what do you use?

I just got a couple real nice Maximas from Barry. He is THE BEST person in the clam business to do business with. He even called my house to make sure everything was OK once I got them in!!
Anyway, though they are awesome clams as you can see,

I can't seem to get that coloration out of them. My lighting is 175w 10k Ushio, 110w Actinic 03 PC, 40w 50/50 VHO. If I view them from the top, it's certainly better, but not like these pics that sold them too me!! Are there better bulbs than others for clam viewing? What do you use?

Let me know,

;)

You've got to remember that light absorption of photographic media is different than the human eyebrain. A digital photo will not show exactly what you would see if you were standing over the tank next to the photographer. These on-line commercial site photos sort of **** me off, because they adjust the lighting and the camera to saturate the colors in the photo. Consumers who don't know what's going on are disappointed when their corals or clams arrive in the mail.

I would focus on providing the best lighting for your clams, then adjust it with added actinics or whatever suits your taste. Metal halide 6500K Iwasaki's or AB 10000K AB bulbs are very intense and good for clams.

I get great color w/ AB 10000K 250 watt HQI-DE's. My maxima's, derasa, and squamosa's are very happy & colorful.

By the way, you've got some great clams there!!:bum:
