Where is the cheapest place local to buy sand, Petco, pet supply plus, AT, Salty, or where? Prob just buy dry and seed it. Much cheaper that way..

hmm I went to AT and even the dry stuff was like $86 for 50 pounds. Not sure if I wasn't looking in the right area or what. I got a promo code ending today that gives me free shipping on salt and sand at Petco so I can get 130 pounds of sand for $86 there. Not sure what to do.

hmmm the sand that i got from AT is on the floor in the boxes next to cash register. just shoot them en email.
130lb for $86 sounds like a good deal. Go to petco and see if you like it and if you do just go for it, cant beat that price.

Salty has really good prices on sand from when I last went. I would opt in buying the regular sand and not the live. Buying the live sand is not worth the expense IMO Just simply seed it with a cup from another establish tank. I wouldn't choose one store over the other on sand, they're basically the same prices. Go for nature's ocean or caribsea sand. AT and salty have at least one of the two.

Quite frankly, I've found Petsmart has pretty good deals on sand. They typically have 40lb bags for $20-25. Sometimes, they'll have them on sale for less. You might want to at least check on it.

Ok I called and Petsmart now has 30 pound bags for $20. I wonder if I can get cheap home depot sand for a base and then get a couple bags of this for on top

Marco Rocks has aragonite sand at pretty good prices. 40lbs. for $30 shipping included or 160lbs. for $109. Also they have a package of 40lbs. of rock and 40lbs. of sand for $119 shipped. I've never used the sand before but I like the rock.

I really wish home depot carried it again...

Homedepot has silicates and other unwanted stuff in their sand. I think your right at one point the did have decent sand. Go with a sand which has a natural buffering capacity like aragonite..or you could go BB like me and save a nice chunk and have a cleaner system at the same time. ;)

I know they are cleaner but I don't care for the bare bottom look. I picked up some good aragonite sand from Petsmart for $20 for 30 pounds.

Nice, how many inches are you going for. I was contemplating a SSB, but wondering what type of cleanup crew would be required and do you have to consistently vaccum it. If I went with sandsifting starfish would they wipe out all the life in the bed? I heard nassarius snails are one of the best inverts for moving the sand around without causing any harm to the critters. What type of crew were you thinking about?

I used to buy mine from some lawn and garden center in between Akron and Canton and Cleveland-Canton road or Akron-Canton road. I know how to get there, but dont remember the name of the place or the road. It was a brand that replaced Southdown. It was like $6.00 per 40 pound bag. I bought the last 20 bags they had a few years back. Oh those were the days!!!!
