the asm g4-x goes for just under 400 bucks. is this the best value? i dont mind spending an extra hundred for a considerable increase in performance.

this will be in a 65 gallon sump/refugium (48"x18"x17") connected to a 180 gallon aquarium (6'x2'x2')

thanks in advance

You could get an MR2 or even an MR 3 for $400 if you have a pump to run it. The MR2 is rated for 300 gallons and easily upgradable with a second injector or a riser tube.

I was debating between an MR2 or a G4 and I went with the MR2. So far im pretty pleased with it.

The AquaC EV-240 would fit as well, and if you happen to have a Mag 12 or Mag 18 or an equivalent lying around, its just under $400.

just found out the stand is going to be 28 inches tall. thats not much room for a large skimmer. are the tunze doc skimmers good? i cant seem to find any reviews on these.

ASM G4x is too tall then, maybe the regular G4.....

i have an ETSS super reef devil in sump that i cannot stand. They are ultra sensitive. You will get great production then it will drop off. Takes quite a bit of tinkering to get it dialed in just right. Its been 3 weeks and i still havent found that 'sweet spot'. I m thinking about an ASM skimmer myself

Best bang for the $ is ASM G3 with both recirc & gate valve mods. Your recirc mod gives you better contact time for foaming out waste. The gate valve mod gives you better control of waterflow going through your skimmer.

MRC skimmers can be ran in-sump or out. They run better out, but if you run them in-sump and keep the output of the skimmer closer to the top of the water, it'll be fine. Good pressure pump is the key. :)
