My comments on the forum openly were JMO correct? Well I just received this e-mail from the 19 year old.

simple minds like yours breed hate and violence. Who are you to judge
me. Im 19 years old and made it a lot farther than you. Your stupid
coment is not appreciated. GROW UP.
THE OCEAN

Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one.

oh, no. A commercial reprisal on URS, I have felt that since...

ROTFL! :lolspin:

He moved back from Florida, and brought a kid w/ him, didn't he?
LOL! There's a good litmus test for ya - those that know what Kent's talking about, raise your hand.

In my opinion, your comments did go a bit far though. Attacking his knowledge and set-up is one thing, but his age and appearance donââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t have much to do with the quality of livestock you go home with. You did buy form him, right? I remember the best professor I had at UB, looked like he was rolled out of a dumpster every morning, and last year we had a great frag meet held by a HS student.
Itââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s also my opinion though, that his message to you was childish. Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m going to Rochester for a few days next month, so Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢ll have to check it out in person for myself.

Mac, That was just to funny. It took me a few seconds and when it hit me, I almost fell off my chair. L.M.A.O.

Well, it was a little harsh. He may have gotten far enough in life to tinker with the idea of a LFS, but in a business where customer service makes/breaks people he may have wanted to respond a bit differently.

You have to have some tact when working with people, especially in LFS where loyalty is the biggest key. IMO, the LFS business is made by loyalty. People can just as easily go on the internet and order what they want (or in this case go to any of the 3 proven fish stores in the area)

IMO, he would have been better off turning the other cheak and gone out of his way to make a better impression for those future people who may visit.

this is a tough subject.as i stated in the other thread-right or wrong some people will judge you before you ever open your mouth by the way you look.i have a small carpet cleaning business.when first starting out i would remove the earings try to wear shirts to cover the tattoos and put my hair up under my basebeball hat.did it as not to offend anyone when entering peoples homes.ive found the elderly most verbal.will come right out with it to if they like it or not.sometimes you can just tell someone is offended by it the way they act.the clothes he wears is"in" right now.i have 5 nieces and nephews and all of them have there pants hanging off their a$$!would i dress like that -no but if i was 19 maybe.just my 2 cents

Not trying to argue, just constructive criticism.

What he's wearing maybe in right now, but remember....a VAST majority of people in our area doing saltwater are people who are blue/white collar workers.

You have to cater to the customers. IF you were in a business selling medical supplies to old people, would you have Neil Diamond playing in the background, or would it be 80's "glamrock"?

Point is, certain types of customers come to expect different things. Given the "typical" reefer in our area, i'm just saying he may want to look into how he presents himself to cater to this particular area.

i agree!thats what i meant by removing the piercings and putting up the hair.when at work he should probably tone it down a bit.what if we played the 80's glam rock quietly?

:wavehand: ....
but only from the most recent 'come-back'...apology, and I'm different now post.
Don't know the whole story about it though.

disclaimer = just my opinion... :D

My husband has long hair and tattoos all over. When job hunting he was discouraged as he kept getting turned down because his appearance didn't fit in w/ a company's "standard" and was considering cutting his hair. I put my foot down and said NO way in heck was he cutting his hair. My reason: if someone was going to refuse to hire him based on his appearance then they were going to be one of those bosses you love to hate.

He now works at a VW dealership dealing w/ upscale customers and you know what? People of all age groups and backgrounds demand to only deal w/ him as they have looked beyond the long hair and tattoos and have found that he is an educated, honest and hard working individual.

I don't want to hear any balony about "having to appeal to a certain customer base". If all you are about is making money, then sure, you've got to do what you've got to do. But, if you are in something simply because it's what you enjoy then why let everyone else ruin the fun of being yourself.

And on a side note... most of the people I've met in my life that dress proper, have Doctorate degrees, argue your cases in court or presribe your medicine smoke marijuana. Maybe you should start to distrust the people who do dress professional??? At least the grungy/hip looking ones are upfront and honest about who they are...

My 2 cents. Take it or leave it.;)

He did it again!

Yet, when I think VW, I think of that "hippy van"
*I actually like weird looking people.

I need to clear up something. But first, KentE, yeah no idea.

When someone is in a RETAIL business, appearance is a good thing to have.

dreaminmel, does your husband dress "neat" as in say a polo and khaki's? I am sure being in the "public eye" he does not go to work wearing jeans around his knees and shirts that are too sizes to big.

Fat-tony and jimmer I am not one to look at ones likes, long hair ( i had it to my *** in the 90's ), tattoo's, and piercings if one is willing to present him/herself in a neat and clean way.

I have to do feild service work for large companies and I have a dress code because I will be in the public eye of all the companies we have contracts with. I am sure PCIALF would not want someone behind his counter selling computer services that appeared as if he just "rolled out of the dumpster".

Visit MO, CF, and TRS and you will find they are all neat and clean, because you are dealing with the public!

As for his knowledge, I can be wrong here, but my wife wants purple firefish. EVERYONE we have spoken to prior said they are good schooling fish, 2 or more is great. He said no way. You should only keep one to a tank unless you have a really large tank. I see it all the time at CF, MO, TRS were they will have 3, 4, or even 6 in a tank at a time.

And like always this is JMO .

I'm pretty sure the kids right on the firefish. For the LFS displays, the mass works (at least for a short time); aggression cannot be directed at a specific individual. Usually, you'll see nipped fins on a few specimens in those groups though. It's the same way a tank full of damsels looks peaceful at the LFS.

They will group as juveniles, and will pair up eventually. Basically the same as engineer gobies, when they're younger. Same deal as with chromis, you usually only end up with a pair or trio anyway.
I think that not having good personal hygiene is one thing, and culturally, that can offend....
But, one of the nice things of owning your own business is that you can create your own dress code. Or not have one at all. Which is nice. :)

For the knowledge part.......yes the purple firefish is a schooling fish... but.... if you only have two and they are not a mated pair they have been known to kill the other or have high aggression levels.. thats my experience with it.. and yes they do keep that many in the tank at the other shops together but for realistically how long? the fish are brought into the shop and in most cases gone within a week.. ive seen 3 different types of tangs in one small tank at one of the shops.. they will be fine(in most cases) because it is for a short period of time. JMO

Yeah, smelling is bad! My prof that looked like he came out of a dumpster every day never smelled like he did.

75galreef,

1 question: Has it ever made you smile to see a receptionist who is showing a little "too much" cleavage?

I'm really not trying to attack you and I completely agree that your opinion is your god given right. I just have this habit of always flipping the coin so people can see the other side. My #1 pet peeve in life is hypocrosy followed closely by people driving 10mph under the speed limit. Not trying to say you are a hypocrite, just trying to find out... :D
