I moved my small colony up in the reef and left it there for about a week. From Day 1 to Day 7 it retreated further and further into its skeleton. I have since moved it to where it came from. How long should I give a coral to acclimate to a new lighting intensity before deciding that it just wont work/doesnt need it?

I tried to force my blastos into higher lighting and they would stretch so close to the skeleton that it would poke through in a few places. I moved them under the shade of some unidentified macroalgae and it plumped up overnight. It went from bleached and taut to popping out new polyps every few weeks.
