I just had 3 of my sps colonies bleach out and die all of a sudden. Two were 6 months old and the other was over 1 year old. All 8 of the other sps colonies i have are fine. the three that died were all healthy, growing, and had no discoloration up until the point where they bleached. havent changed any of my maintenance practices, checked all of my elements and waste levels with chemical tests, havent added anything new for about 2 months (live or equip.) not even a minor change. Tank has been running for over 2 yrs as reef. i have no idea what happened. any ideas anyone? its the darndest thing!

temp controlled by aqua controller and chiller 77-79. parameters: cal 440, no2 0, no3& phos almost undetectable, ph 8.4, alk 10, i use natural sea water for water changes and even test that before using. i am very anal about what i put in my tank and cant figure it out????????? has anyone ever experienced this. it was like the sking just peeled off the 3 pieces.

here is the claim by Catalina water which is what i use: "is filtered extensively, treated with UV Sterilization & Ozone, buffered for pH, and tested prior to shipment"
but you never know what may get in the water once it gets to the LFS. I have noticed similar bleaching of branching sps' at that fish store. maybe there is something in their system.

Were the colonies that died wild colonies? What about the ones that you still have? Lots of people stay away from wild colonies for the very reason that they live only for about 6 months then, without explanation, they die off.
