just want to know how often every one is blowing off their live rock ? i blow my live rock off ( sounds kind of funny when you read this out loud ) with a t-baster once a week and i was wondering if thats to much or not enough ?

I do mine about once every two weeks.

i guess it depends on how much stuff you are blowing off. (ya, that does sound kinda wrong).

If you are blowing off a lot of stuff, then you can do it more often. if not, then you can do it less.

hi adam, im gonna say that your on a roll and its a good thing that your doing this and getting rid of all the detritus and organics, nutrients that sit in the live rock and just accumalate. when you blow them off with the baster this will suspend the waste into the water column so that the skimmer can get it all out keep up the good regime and keep us posted on your progress, hope this helps pal...

thanks for the advise and replies . to answer the question that was asked im blowing off detrius , left over food , coraline shed , to let the protein skimmer and filter get rid of as much as possible . i do this several times and hours before a water change. i was just wondering if i was doing it to much or not enough

FWIW, I use a maxi-jet 1200 to blow the rock off. I change 8 gallons of water each week. Before I blow the rock off I put a bag on my overflow to catch the stuff. I blow the rock off and wait for the tank to clear. I then blow it off again and wait for the tank to clear. I then take the bag off the overflow and do the water change.

It seems to well for me. I don't know if it's too often or not. I do know that I have zero nitrates. (We'll at least my test kit comes up zero.)

Regards,

Pat
