i know it might not be a true softy but always gre like one for me...i used to have a blue ridge coral that survived for years and years under 6 shop light tubes of light and a huge refuge... my guestion is i dont see them around anymore is there a reason... although this was at least 10 years ago it was the centerpiece of my aqarium and it survived everything.. anyone keeping this coral anymore ????? i would really like to use it as the centerpiece for my new aqarium as well..

I have a colony that I've been growing out for 7 or 8 years, but I very rarely see them for sale anymore either. It's a shame; they are such cool looking corals if you give them time to grow out properly. Mine has even formed a few small islands above the water line.

I've got a couple of colonies, too, that have been growing out for years. Sometimes, they get a notice, but most don't even give them a second look... The two colonies I have have completely different growth forms. One is very knobby, while the other is more vertical.

i think its an endangered coral thats not allowed to be harvested anymore - and it is a very pretty coral, love the stalagmite type growth and the color

I saw they were for sale as captive frags thats what made me think of it.. I think they are endangered or not being collected anyway... Too bad for the oldest skeletal coral in the ocean

I read somewhere that there were only two species od Heliopora, of which one is extinct. When I got my first nano I bought two pieces of "rock" that were in fact two large colonies of Heliopora. Both regenerated and it took me a while to find somebody who could ID them.

Here are some pics, taken with my phone.
