can anyone post pics as comparsion for baby blue spot tang and unicorn tang ???

i just got a tang that looks like blue spot but i don't see any blue spot, instead i see a very lil bump on the head...so i'm guessing it's probably a unicorn.. but not sure. it's about 3-3.5" .

THANKX

With a lack of spots it is probably not a vlamingi (blue spot) tang. The bump on the head can be misleading since there are something like 16 differnet Naso species, some with and some with out a "horn", but most with a small bump.

The blue spot unicorn tang and the unicorn tang look similar when very young. however, the blue spot resembles the Vlamingii tang as it ages as they have a light blue/olive color with the blue spots and lines, while a unicorn tang keeps the pale blue color/almost white coloring and starts to grow the bump. All three fish grow very quickly and need alot of swim room. I currently have a 6.5" blue spot in my 280, which gives him 8' to swim, but is quickly outgrowing the tank. Sorry, I don't have pics readily available.

well, the color looks dark grey to me at this time, plant grey with no spot, so i have no idea what it is haha...

so the valmingi is actully blue spot ??? and there's blue spot unicorn as well ??? i'm pretty confusing now ..

You are actually talking about three separate species of tang- Vlamingii, Unicorn, and Blue spot Unicorn.
The Vlamingii and the Blue Spot Unicorn look very close in terms of color (pale blue/olive) and appearance, however the Vlamingii has a fan tail and will get a large rounded bump on its head.

The Blue spot unicorn has the forked tail typical with other naso species, that will eventually grow streamers. They also get a small rounded bump on their head, not as prominant as the Vlamingii. Here are pics of mine:

The unicorn gets a pale blueish-green/white or as they grow and will get the unicorn horn on the top of its head. It really doesn't look anything like the others mentioned in regards to having any blue spots or lines.
