Blue tang question

I have a friend who has a 55 gallon fish only tank and purchased a blue tang. He asked the shop owner how big this fish would get in his tank and the employee answered that this fish could get up to a foot long in a larger aquarium. But the fish will only grow to the size of the tank. I just looked at him and shook my head. That fish will out grow the tank won't it.

Yes, it will. It might also succumb to a stress-related ailment from being cramped. Too bad so many lfs still give out wrong info.

Yeah, I think the fish probably will unless it dies of ick first due to stress.
