I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good pair of bone cutters that are not going to rust I bought a pair from BRS and they are now all rusted after only a few uses. I would like a pair that would stay rust free

boston aqua farms has ones hat dont rust
I've found that pretty much anything will rust eventually except for super high grade stainless. I like the Boston Aqua Farms cutters, you just have to be sure to rinse them thoroughly. They did have a bad batch a while back that had rust issues, you may want to let them know about your problem.

I picked up a frag set from marine depot. Even with limited use they are starting to corrode. They are marked as a stainless steel, but who knows what grade they actually are.

Unfortunately, even the highest grade stainless steels will corrode in the presence of salts. I'd suspect that most of the stuff available to the aquarium trade is a low grade 300 series.

The other thing is that given that these are "bone cutters" they are designed to be cleaned in a steam autoclave. The high temperatures involve in the sterilization prevent the steam from condensing on the surface. They also come out of the autoclave dry. The high temperatures involved also help to maintain the chrome III oxide coating that naturally forms.

I have a cheap pair from Marine Depot and i've had pretty good luck with them. I make sure to rinse them with freshwater after every use and dry them thoroughly with paper towels. Unless you're fragging every couple days, it's worth the little extra maintenance to maintain the bone cutters IMO.

I've also heard of people buying cheap pairs of pliers from the dollar store, and soaking them in a bath of water & Dawn followed by a vinegar bath. Haven't tried it myself, but I don't see why it wouldn't work...

I use a pair of wire snips from home depot. Pretty much what swanny said...I washed them well with some mild dish soap when I first got them. Every time I use them I rinse them really well under tap water and dry them off, and they show a little bit of rust spotting, but not bad at all. They work great for snipping LPS like frogspawn or trumpets.

alright thanks for the recommendations I will have to look in into an alternative to something that is not going to rust maybe the dremel is the way to go.
