Breeding Scoly

Has anyone else been looking into this? It looks doable for someone who can dedicate the space needed. Scoly males release gametes depending on the cycle of the moon. Scoly females are coral brooders. They don't release the baby Scoly until they are ready to settle; no free swimming stage. Baby Scoly are released with zooxanthellae and are self sufficient. This could be very lucrative for someone with space. It would sure take the pressure off the wild population.

One issue I might think is their growth rate which I understand is on the very slow side, your right though, if you could "grow" them we all know how much each one of these goes for.

Love those Master Scolymia!

theres a guy on the other reef forum who successfuly fragged them by cutting them in 4 and then using aquascape epoxy to build a base for them and sitck them in the middle of it. his user name is mrnewberry. his tank crashed in 2018 and he hasnt been too active since. his fragging occurred in 2016. its well documented there.
