Brown algea

My nitrates were out of control and I finally got them to come down alittle with water changes. How do I get rid of the brown algea on my live sand that keeps comming back?

Could be from phosphates.. What type of water are you using?

My phosphates are nomal. I was using water from a natural spring and never had a problem. I checked my nitrates in my tank and they were through the roof.Everything else was fine.I checked the water I was using and found out that the water was through the roof.Now I'm using R/O.The levels are comming down but the algea is still comming back.How much time would it take to correct?

If your tank is new, it's probably just diatoms. They will go away when your tank matures.

If you aren't using RO water, start now! It will help you out in the future, believe me.

I take the diatom idea back. I really suggest getting a PhosBan reactor to reduce phosphates and starting to use RO water.
