This stuff is growing really fast, only grows on rocks, is rubbery, thin, brown, very hard to get off rocks. I tried taking out all LR and scrubbing it off and putting it back in and blowing off rocks but it still comes back.

Anyone having similar problems? any ways of getting rid of this algae?
It leaves this white fungus on top of the brown rubbery algae and looks very nasty.

Thanks! any help appreciated.

I heard naso tang eats this stuff so i am thinking about adding one if this is my only choice. One guy told me he had same problem as me and he put in a naso tang small-med size and it ate it all and thats how he got rid of it. Urchins help too ive noticed but are not the the best solution. These are the only 2 that i have heard that eats this stuff.

Any other ways? i have defeated every other algae there is i think in the 2 years my tank has been setup..i am not about to give up to this one :D.

Kool, Thats good to know, I have a brown powder tang and a purple tang in my 120g. I think they will kill the naso tang if i get it. By the way, does your brown aglae have some type of strings slime with an air bubble on the top of each strings? i will take some pictures of it and post it up tonight.

I have the same stuff in my nano and clearly I can't put a tang in a twelve gallon. I Cant believe no one knows what the stuff is. It appears to grow in lower flow. Anyone else agree with this.

Mine only grows on rocks and grows extremely fast. I had some paly's growing on a rock and this stuff grew over the paly's and suffocated them. Not even coralline algae is fast enough to grow to beat this. I have coralline growing on my glass like crazy but little on rocks because of this pest.

It sounds like dinoflagellates to me. Nasty stuff...looks like brown stringy snot that rises up with air bubbles in it. If that's what it is, I don't think anything will eat it, which is probably good because its not good for the animals if they do eat it. I just had an infestation of this stuff, and the only thing I found to do that got rid of it was to leave my lights off for three days. When I turned them back on it was gone. Its been about three days since then, and I have seen a few straggler pieces of it pop up, but at least so far, nothing in any significant quantity.

I decided to turn off the lights for today and tomorrow, Just to see it that would help get rid of that stuff. I will let you guys know how it turn out. Happy Holidays.

i believe it is Lobophora
not sure how to get rid of it as i have a little bit of it. mine is not growing like crazy though. i have some that looks like the picture you posted. and some that is actually shelving like corraline and has white "growth rim". but both kinds have white hairs on them.

the only thing that worked for me was physical removal and water changes with plenty of carbon and rowaphos. It didn't take long to go away either, only a couple of weeks with only about 5-6 water changes
