Plenty of ways to add buffer. baking soda is the cheapest way. go to the chemistry forum and read up on Randys two part CA / ALK (home made mix) works great.
That article should be useful. For getting started, some B-Ionic or Kent Tech-CB would be a fine choice. You can make your own if that works well for you.
IMO, you should choose a calcium and alkalinity supplement that's less problem-prone than baking soda.
