Bulkhead Position in Sump

I'm working on a 210 display with a 40 breeder sump.
I will be using a external return that has a 2" inlet to the pump.
My bulkhead for the return needs a 3" hole in the side of the 40 breeder.

I know it is recommended that the hole be 3" from the side and 3"
from the bottom.

Because of where this will place the pump I was thinking of drilling the
hole 2" from the side and 2" from the bottom.

Will this be OK.
Just want some thoughts on this.

You likely will be fine. But I was wanting to comment on your selected size for a sump. For that size display I would want a sump that is much larger, much. When I had my 60" 100 gallon I had a 75 gallon sump and it worked nicely but I was always wishing I had gon with something bigger. Plus you could potentially be at a higher risk of overflowing a sump that size with a DT that large. Even with siphon breaks and such you still get some back siphoning until the break starts working.

Thanks for feedback.
A bigger sump would be nice.
My current 65 gallon has a 20 gallon sump which left me no room for
my other devices.
I run a Kalk reactor, Bio reactor, and GFO Carbon reactor (when needed).
I have a skim mate container.
I also need to store my Cal and Alk 2 part containers under the tank.
I also have a full Apex controller that need to be mounted under the tank.
I already had the 40 breeder from a old setup. (Makes wife happy reusing items)
The sump will have about 20 gallons while it's running, and my drain amount
should be ~12 gallons.
I will be setting this up temporarily in the basement to do the plumbing and
test with freshwater.

So it really just came down to needing the room for the devices versus a
larger sump.

me personally i wouldn't drill that big of hole to close to the edge i would go the three and three and then build a little platform for the pump and then make sure to change the return section if neccessary to accomadate the bigger bulkhead/pump

i don't like the idea of using an external pump with a glass sump, let me re-phrase that!
a glass sump made of thin glass, you can easily crack the 40 breeder by bumping the pump and/or the plumbing. does not take too much force to crack it.
