Bulkhead

Here is my dilemma;one of the bulkhead(bottom)(main pipe) is leaking, how can I fix this issue? The tank is full with sand & rocks any glue/sealers that could be use around the bulkhead to seal the leak?
:mad2:

The tank is RR with a megaflow(center) with slots at the bottom/middle/top,how can I drain the water out of this overflow?Pardon my ignorance though first time with a reef ready tank

once you shut the pump off the tank should drain the top bit off into the sump, take a bucket of water out of the display tank just to avoid the accidental splash, then pull the drin pipe out of the bulkhead in the overflow. this should allow all the water in the overflow box to drain into the sump (make sure you have enough room for it to drain) now you can replace your bulkhead. The only place water should enter the overflow box is over the top so dont splash in the display tank and you should be good.

AJ,

The Megaflow system has two parts. The front has slots and the innermost part is solid and acts as a dam for the box so yes, you can drain the box. After you drain it be sure to clean the area where the bulkhead gasket is going to seat. If the bulkhead is threaded, use silicone to coat the threads...much better than teflon tape and allows you to hand-tighten the fitting. If you need any more help, please feel free to ask.

great, glad that I asked btw those gaskets can be found on any hardware ie Lowes/HD?What kind of silicone can I use for the threads?

you won't find bulkheads at HD. i took one in, and they said they'd never seen one before-sent me to a pool shop to find another. are you sure you are putting the bulkhead on correctly? the flange side, is the side the gasket goes on, not the nut side. i've never had to put any silicone or teflon tape on any bulkheads i've done in the past. also-you only want to hand tighten them. SITC has bulkheads i believe. if not, aquatic eco has everything you need. will only take a lot more $$$$$ for it from them. HTH

A lot more money? Wow, SITC must be selling them for $2 then, right? If so, let me know I need to get some for my new 180. I know Aquatic eco sells them for $5.

i haven't priced them in a while, but was just saying i know that SITC sells them. i was saying aquatic eco is high priced, because the mag24 pump i need is 50 bucks more from them, rather than online.

Yeah thats funny I noticed that the other day too. I never really noticed that when I was over there but I know they price match on pumps.
