burrowing snail

i just received a 3.5 max from flying fish. it has what i think is a burrowing snail, .2 inch round hole right next to the mantle, on the top of the shell. the critter inside secretes lots of mucus strands all over the place, and has a small hard disk that matches the hole (like the disk regular snails have for protection when hiding in their shells).
am i right on this ID?
is this thing dangerous/fatal to the snail?
is there anything i can do about it?:(

Jimmy, I think I know what you are talking about, I had one of these on my Deresa, it was a friggin slime factory! I dont believe it was doing the clam any harm as it was building a calciuos spyral shell on the outside, I got really tired of the slime ball and there was no way to remove it safely, so I super glued the hole shut... Im not exactly sure of the creatures ID...

i didnt think of plugging the hole, that sounds like a great idea.

anybody else tired this?

will it kill the snail or just stop the mucus?

thanks for the response. i talked with J. Newman at flying fish, who helped to identify the snail as a non-parasitic type (the info seems reliable), and agreed that using epoxy to seal the hole is a good solution to the terribly annoying mucus issue. thumbs up to FF for responding positivly to an overly concerned customer.:D
