I was looking at the typhoon III. Does that come with filters? Or do you have to buy them extra? What else would I need for it. Can you show me some pics of it running. Thanks in advance

Does the 100gpd not clean as well. or are they different filters?

It comes with filters, you need nothing else if buying from airwaterice. Get the 75gpd unit it is a higher filtration rate.

75GPD unit, 1/4" float valve feeding a ~15 gallon tub

And another: (Notice that I am using the wastewater to fill the washing machine. When it gets full, I can move the hose to the washing machine drain port.) The RO only tube is wrapped around. I use this for drinking water and my planted tank.

No pics, but I have that unit. :D I don't have it hooked up permanently, so I carry it from the garage into the house everytime I make water. You'd think I'd get tired of that real quick and get that thing mounted, but nope, I like the unit so much I smile every time I "get" to make more water.

The 100 gpd membrane has a 90% rejection rate, the 75 gpd membrane has a 98% rejection rate. So, you get more water with the 100 gpd but your DI has to work harder to remove the extra ions that pass through. Go with the 75 gpd unit, you will be very happy with your choice. I have the 75 gpd, and I still smile at the choice I made every time I make water.

What do you need a 7 stage filter for? Figure out your incomming waters tds and unless its very very high the typhoon 3 with the 75 gpd membrane should be fine. My incomming tds is 45 and after 9 mos I still get 0 tds. As a matter of fact I am getting 1 tds before the di.

my in tds is ~200 and i get <10 out of the R/O

i've heard of people with 500 TDS in (well water i believe) and <25 out of RO, still doesn't seem excessive

the discreption says 7 stages but the phooto shows only 4 stages???

I believe there are stages behind the ones visible.... the below is quoted from the page in the link... It also uses dual RO stages (in paralles) so counted as a single stage...

Stage 1) Heavy duty, standard industry size 10 Micron Poly Pro sediment filter.

Stage 2) 5 micron acid washed* Gem coconut carbon block filter, removing 98-99% of chlorine.

Stage 3) 1micron acid washed* Gem coconut carbon block filter, that removes the remaining chemicals and chlorine. This filter is rated for 9,000 gallons and allows only 1ppm (Parts Per Million) chlorine per gallon..

Stage 4) Two TW 100 GPD or Two 75 GPD FilmTec membranes**(refer to difference in membranes)
Stage 5) Full size anion DI cartridge color changing
Stage 6) Full size cation DI cartridge color changing.
Stage 7) a full size mixed bed DI

I would say no.
I ordered the typhoon III from them last week and eagerly awaiting the UPS man to bring it me..
The typhoon III should be all you would need to make good water.

Here is my typhoon III that I added on to goes like this:
10 Sediment--5 sediment --- 5 carbon ---1 carbon ---RO--- 1st DI--- 2nd DI

It works very well Even without the add-ons I was getting 00tds

I had a question about the Typhoon so I called AirWaterIce and left a message. No response. I emailed them. No response. They may have a nice unit, but this doesn't give me a good feeling. I can call Drs Foster/Smith and have a unit at my door in 2 days. R

AWI is a fairly small company and they prefer e-mail contacts. I have never had a problems with response time or technical knowledge from them. I can almost promise you they will get back to you with answers to your questions and it won't be all hype, only honest answers.
