Buying DTs

Does anyone know where to buy DTs in the NYC/LI area? Ordering online is a good price but shipping a product that is perishable in this heat wave does not seem like a good idea.

Thanks in advance,
Mike

You could buy it locally until the temperature drops a bit. If you must mail order, be sure to pay for overnight delivery. It will be shipped with an ice pack. Perhaps pool an order with other local reefers to save on shipping costs.

MiNdErAsR: That's the point of my post! Who sells it locally? Country Critters on LI doesn't carry the stuff, not does a local guy in Queens. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Mike

Reef & Fin in Stamford CT sells it. But you're going to pay top dollar because of location. Probably double the cost online. But at least you save on overnight shipping charges. :)

If you go to R&F, tell them I sent you.

I really want to go to raf but it is too far.Maybe one day.I just realized I might know of a place in brooklyn. If you think that is closer let me know. I will call them up today.

Thanks for the replies.

MiNdErAsR: I think I will call raf for pricing before I make the trip. OR I might just go to see if he has anything new for me to buy! :D When I drop your name, do I place emphasis on every other letter or do you still remember your birth name to be used instead?!?

yrureefing: I live in Douglaston, but travel everyday to Staten Island to work, so Brooklyn should no be a problem either. Do you have a tel #? Is this the aquarium in Coney Is? Last check I'm still a memeber of BAS, although I haven't been a meeting in quite some time.

:p

The number is 718-251-7389. It is not the aquarium in coney island(which by the way rocks!). It is a pet store on flatbush ave. It is about 45min. to an hour away from SI. It depends where you are. It could take longer or shorter. Reef and fin would probably be more fun:p

You can use my given name, which is in my tag. :D Chris and Laura are good people, and will work with you. I think you'll like this store.

Thanks again for your help! I have been working all this week, but will make the trip this weekend.

Mke:cool:

yrureefing: I stopped by after work at the shop you suggested. He indeed did have the product, but it was marked "best by September 1, 2002." I did not think it was a good idea to buy it with only a week left before expiration. He said he would be ordering more "soon."

I'll try RaF this weekend.

Thanks,
Mike

I'm not sure. But if you follow the directions on the bottle, the normal dose is one oz. per 100 gallons every other day. So with a bottle of 30 oz, it should last me 2 months on my current tank. September 1, 2002 cuts it close! :D

If anyone doses differently let me know.

Mike

Mike,

I'm in the market for some as well. I called most of the places on LI and some places in brooklyn, nobody had anything. I guess we're lucky that place has some. If they get some soon please let me know as I can get there to get some, otherwise I'm going online. Some places like Reef Splendor are not that far from us (upstate new york) so overnight shipping would not be that bad.

sci33: I like your sig! Take their number down and call them in about a week. They will have hopefully ordered more by then. Mail order is about $40 total for the 30oz bottle, but I am still not comfortable ordering by mail with a perishable product.

I'll let you know if I find out first.

Mike when you start doing this stuff to your tank start it slow and eventually step up. Don't just go dumping an ounce in everyday, don't read the back of the bottle. Every system can process a different amount. Start dosing, and every week increase that amount a little more. When you see an algae bloom a couple days after dosing you know you dosed too much and have reached your limit.

Sorry, I don't really know a lot about this stuff, I just wanted to tell you what I've read before you do something you regret. Maybe you should buy one of the small bottles as I will be doing, then once you see what you're system needs you can decide if you want the 30 oz.
