Ca reactor media

What are you using and are you happy with your results? Is anybody using just normal aragonite? I'm getting a new reactor next week and looking for some first hand experiences, thanks

Thanks Kip, I can't believe you are the only one out of 60+ views in the sps forum using a reactor.

i used aragonite in the past and the phosphates were to high coming out of the reactor -- .3 with deltec phosphate test kit

AZ,

I've used both. Never saw a huge difference in regular aragonite and ARM. Never had NA with either. Once the tank is established the breakdown process is not discernable IMO. The monster dealers in LA use AB so go figure.

Only real dif was if I allowed my pH in the reactor to drop too low the aragonite would melt and gag the reactor pump for water. It was an old reactor though with no controls other than drip rate.

Using Rowalith C+ in my Deltec reactor and I'm not impressed. Thinking on switching to ARM.

Currently my pH inside the reactor is 6.3 and only getting a dkH of less than 40 in the outlet (broken stream). With ARM in the past, I didn't have that problem.

Been using CaribSea Geo marine for a few years......I've used just about all of em at one time or another, at 20.00 for 40 pounds its hard to use anything else.

Amen, and boom goes the dynamite.

Not to hijack but do yourself a favor and get a PH controller while your at it. I finally got one and it makes it a LOT easier to get your Ca / Alk demands dialed..

I use ARM media btw.. No complaints. I recently purchased the ummmm (dead coral skeletons stuff) and might give that a whirl sometime. I hear thats good stuff. They say that ARM type media REALLY slows the efficiency of the recirculating reactors.

Geez Fatboy, I'd be afraid to melt my media at 6.3. I'm running mine at 6.7. Maybe I need to crank up the CO2.

Hey Chadfarmer, what was your phosphate reading of the influent as compared with the effluent.

Charles, good to see you around

i used the Schran style "knock off" media from www.premiumaquatics.com it is the dead coral skeleton style stuff. big pieces. i like it better then ARM IMO. w/ ARM i had some issues w/ making mud and stuff. no problems w/ anything w/ teh "knock off" style

Anyone try Gen-X Calcium reactor media.
I'm thinking about it but I would like to here feed back from someone that has used or is using it.
Is this the "Schran style "knock off" mediaââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ that you where referring to Lunchbucketââ"šÂ¬Ã‚

I am using ARM, but when I run out, I will probably try some of the larger media like the Schuran or Korallith.

I do have a question about the Schuran at premiumaquatics. There is no picture, but it is called Coral Sand. That just doesn't seem like the right name for large reactor media.

65lbs of schuran media here, works great, great flow through the reactor and never a melt down. run the first chamber effluent at 6.4 with a dkh of 50 or so, havent checked it in a a long time though

I use ARM media, have been for many years. Gets a little mushy but its working just fine for me.
