Hello,

Someone was telling me they saw some doors that were completely removable and they were held in place by magnets. Does anyone know what type of magnet hardware this would be? I am looking to have my canopy doors removable, but I would like to use magnets to hold them in place on the canopy. I just cannot find anything online or in the stores.

Thanks,
Chris

found where you can get magnets heres a link

my work uses these on some machines I build. Look at the JM-50 and jm 45 because they are sealed.. so salt water wouldn't be able to get to them, you can also find striker plates out of 316 stainless

Need to look at pull strength and how heavy your canopy doors are.. may take a couple magnets to get it to stick.. some trial and error

Woodwrangler, I used the same thing, only in metal for a maint acct. Those work great I will probably use the same for my next custom build. Do you know if those plastic "knuckle catches" are available at the local HD or Menards or what not?

tokinreefer, I honestly don't know where they are available. We get all our hardware supplies from a wholesale distributor named Louis and Company, so we have never checked any of the big box stores. I am sure there are some online distributors, but, if you have trouble finding them let me know, and I can send some out to you.

You could as easily buy round rare earth magnets on ebay and countersink them into the back of the wood frame and stand. If you need more strength, just add more magnets around the perimeter. Becuase the poles are on the flat planes of the disc, the door would be self centering as long as you took your time lining up the counterbores.

BeanAnimal, I like that suggestion. I will have to look into it.

Woodwrangler, I also like those knuckle catches. My door will be resting on the frame. What I have is a 18 x 7 opening in my canopy and my door will be 20 x 9. So my door will overlap the opening about 1 inch on each side. The door is flush with the canopy if that makes sense, the door will not be recessed at all into the opening. The door is just a flat piece of wood. The magnet would have to be strong enought to hold the door in place. But I guess the catches do not have that problem.

Anymore thoughts?

Thanks bunches.

Chris
