Thanks! I got my tank before the 40g came out. Otherwise I would have probably gotten the 40g instead. I like the dimensions. I am running out of room in my tank for new corals haha. But I will be setting up a frag tank plumbed into the system to accommodate some new additions as well as my frags for sale.
 
Went though all you thread and enjoyed every part of this lovely setup. I must admit your coral colours are amazing and stunning collection. Tahir

Here is a recent FTS. I added more sps to my table rock on the top and I cleared out some of the corals on the sand for a cleaner look.

The tank is almost exactly 23 5/8 inches square. The stand is hair over that.
 
very nice tank build bro!did u put a mat under your tank? i just got a 50g artisan tank and was wondering if it really needed one
 
I used the cadlights stand that came with the tank so I didn't put a mat between the tank and the stand. If you are using another stand you may want to due to possible unevenness.

I have a picture of all my plumbing on page 2 of this thread. I used 1/2" for the return and 1" for the drain. You can see all the parts in the picture. I am not sure what you mean by "what sorts of plumbing". Do you mean the actual names of the parts?

I used 120 degree elbows, a check valve, ball valve, and a few unions. For the returns in the overflow box I used a y barbed fitting, 2x90 degree elbows with barbed to female threaded and locline with male thread. For the durso you should probably make a typical durso as I switched mine over anyway since it turned out to be quieter.

If you buy your plumbing online you can just match the pictures.

If you really don't know what you are doing with the plumbing you may want to make a simpler setup than mine. I only made it all crazy because I wanted more flexibility down the road.
 
If you go to home depot you may not find some of the plumbing pieces I have. If they do have check valves they usually have spring loaded valves which can corrode. Also they don't always have unions and they rarely have much of a selection of barbed fittings.

Did you get the plumbing package from cadlights (ie bulkheads, locline etc)?

Cadlights should seriously sponsor me or something haha.
 
I didn't get the package from cadlights cause I bought it used. Did you glue any of the plumbing?

I actually switched to a conventional durso. The one in the pic worked alright but I found the conventional one to be quieter.

Yes I did. Any joints that were not threaded were glued. If you don't glue the plumbing it leaks.
 
Beautiful set up. I may be ordering one this week!

Any advice on flow? I am thinking two mp10's? I am sure you have answered this before... but how did your purple tang do in there? I would love to get a juvenile kole tang for the 50g, at least until it is a year or two old. Do you think that is doable in this tank without harming the fish?

(I know everyone has their own opinion on this, but out of curiosity, what was your experience?)

For flow I used one mp10. I think that is really enough. I don't even have it turned up all the way. But everyone has their own preferences. My purple tang seems to be fine in this tank but it has a very different demeanor than most tangs. It is quite skittish and likes to hide in the canyons between rocks a lot. It actually behaves more like a wrasse. I think this is why it is suitable for this tank. It has been in larger tanks before and didn't swim around much. Just hid and darted around.
