Calcium and magnesium together?

I have noticed most balling methods like AF and so on the magnesium is mixed with the calcium.

Is this ok to do using Randys 2 part to free up 1 channel on my dosing pump? currently using recipe 1 with part 3A.

Thanks.

At the higher concentrations used in a dosing situation the sulfate in the magnesium solution will precipitate with the calcium as calcium sulfate.

I hooked my magnesium to my doser and used it only when i was stabilising the tank. Since getting my mag to 1500 i have not used the doser to dose it for over 3 months. To be honest i would manually dose the mag to free up a channel, as mag usage is not that heavy (in my situation at least). So check your consumption and see if manual is better.

You could add some magnesium chloride to the calcium supplement. The magnesium sulfate will cause precipitation, as stated. Getting the right dose will be the only major problem.

Thanks guys

So what will the precipitation do? because won't I already be getting precipitation from mixing the mag chloride and mag sulfate?

No, the magnesium sulfate and magnesium chloride are both soluble. It's calcium sulfate that's not soluble. It would precipitate, which means it would form crystals and no longer be dissolved. If it's not in solution then it will just sit as a powder on the bottom of the container and won't be dosed into the system. So it would be a total waste of your supplement.
