calcium reactor VS bio reactor VS general media reactor

So I've tried searching and I've come up with nothing. I'm looking into going the biopellet route and I was wondering if I could use any old reactor, and if so what are the advantages, disadvantages or even differences between all the different types of reactors?

Isn't suspending media what it is all about? and if it is, then the only thing that really changes in carbon VS calcium vs biopellets would be I assume the required amount of flow to suspend them. Is there more to it then different flow ratings/patterns? I've got a mag 3 (350 GPH kicking around, I'm assuming it will be plenty for a bio-reactor for a smaller tank (50 gallon).
