Can an ocellaris and maroon clown go together in a 45?

I currently have a 45 gallon tank, with a Hoeven's wrasse, scarlet skunk cleaner shrimp, Fiji damsel, yellow wrasse, and ocellaris clown. I really like my clown but also like the maroons and am curious if the 2 will get along and maybe even pair up. I know they're in the damsel family so there might be some initial aggression. I'm also in the works of a 180 gallon but it'll be close to a year before I have it completely set up and ready to move the fish over. Also im getting mixed information on my yellow wrasse, my lfs says he'll stay around the 3 to 3 and a half inch mark, but I've also heard of them getting as big as my hoeven's wrasse and he's about 5 and a half inches right now. Thanks guys!

Just go in that thread and click on the red triangle next to one of the posts. This will send a message to one of the mods. When you click it a box will open and just put a note in that box to remove it.

Had 3 oc clowns and a maroon happily together for 5 maybe 6 years and then one day the maroon turned against them and it got brutal. The maroon would pile drive the clowns into the sand,Rock Ect and just not stop. He killed one clown before I was able to get the oc clowns out, it was easier to catch the Ocs then the maroon so they went in a small wire bucket that hung in the tank to be protected from the maroon. They even learned to jump in an out of that bucket at will. Pretty incredible.

Later found out that that was typical of maroons just crazy how they can live together that long and then everything changes one day. Won't be getting any more maroons with the new tank.

Mixing clown is almost always a no no in any size tank. There are always a few case where it work but so very few.

shres5: can I ask in what case will it work and am I mixing clowns or are they just different colors. I had 2 black ocellaris with orange faces and 2 orange ocellaris, but one of each as died so will the two remaining clowns get along?

Well if in pairs it almost never works unless very large tank.

I have seen where a female maroon pairs up with another species male. There is no situation where it works it is just pure luck...

Sometimes in very large tanks when they each have anemone.

Heck I had my female clarkii kill another male clarkii..

Will yours get a long? who knows. Is one female and one male? That would make a huge difference. I have a orange Occ. with a black Occ. but they are both Occ.
