Can I get a clam????

Thanks for the link but it is mostly about feeding i was wondering about light requriments but thanks again for the link!

I'm no expert(just got my 1st clam a few weeks ago) but it looks like you can as long as you put it under the MH. It may need to be up in the rockwork depending on what kind it is.

I would start with a Derasa. They aren't as colorful as some others, but they are still beautiful, and they have the reputation for being the hardiest of the bunch. There are some Derasa's with striking colors but they can be hard to find.

A Squamosa would also be a good choice for a first clam.

I would position him directly under the MH light. Clams (especially young ones) need to be fed also. I reccomend DT's phytoplankton.

The Croceas are perhaps the most beautiful, and require the most light. Maximas also need more light than Squamosas, although the gold ones require slightly less than the blues.

With an 18" Deep tank under a 150 MH, the Squamosa would probably be a great starter clam. 3" or larger would be less demanding on the feeding than the small ones.

Have fun with it- but they ARE addictive!
